Discussion:
[Gramps-users] Printing reports with pictures in ancestor view

I have many pictures attached to the people in my family tree. When I
print reports, no mater what I do with the check boxes in the print
dialog box, the pictures don't print. Is there a way to get them to print?

Several days ago, I asked the question below but have received no
feedback. Should I have perhaps asked what are my print options once I
have my research as complete as I choose? This my first exploration in
to a program of this type

Hi,

I suppose we need more details!
Where do you want to see pictures ?
What is the format on output ?
Do you see any picture or just want to see all pictures, like a gallery ?

Detailed textual reports provide option for printing or not the first picture attached to the individual. Narrative Web report also print pictures.

So far, the only print reports that I have been able to make produce
anything is the Reports > graphical reports > Ancestor tree. That
prints the same structure as the Ancestor view. In MY tree, I have
pictures attached to many of the people on the tree. But when the
report prints, those pictures that show up on the Ancestor view, don't
carry over to the printed report. Is there a way to get those pictures
to print with/on the report?
Is this where I should be looking to print my outputs or is there
another area that I am unaware of for better and more complete print
results?

Yes: you need to make a Feature Request [1]. In the request, be a
specific as you can as to where you would like to see pictures. For
example, you could take an existing report and arrange it so that
pictures could be inserted. Or you might design a new report from
scratch. If you can provide a sample (for example, made in OpenOffice
or Word) that would be a great help to the programmer. Then a
programmer can take your request, and write code that will implement
your feature.

[1] - http://www.gramps-project.org/bugs/view_all_bug_page.php

You'll need to make an account there, and then "Report Issue" and
select "Feature Request".

Well I must not be doing something right. I found all "buttons" as you
described, but printing from the Reports > Graphical reports > ancestor
tree, still no thumbnail pictures. I can''t print from the Reports >
Graphs > Relationship Graph dialog box as there in no print option. I
tried changing the thumbnail position along with checking the thumbnail

Could we be talking about different versions of Gramps? I am using

Could we be talking about different versions of Gramps? I am using
3.2.3-1 which I got from the Ubuntu repositories.
Into a console, try this:

sudo apt-get install graphviz

Note, if you are using Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10, you can download and
install a more recent versions of gramps: 3.2.5!

The 'Include thumbnail images of people' option (or something like that)
under the Report Options tab:
Loading Image...
does not work after the report generation ?

Under Paper Options, what is your output format ?

I have many pictures attached to the people in my
family tree. When I

print reports, no mater what I do with the check boxes
in the print

dialog box, the pictures don't print. Is there a
way to get them to print?

Thanks to Peter and Jerome and all for your help. I loaded the programs
and have printed the Reports > Graphs > Relationship graphs and they
have printed with pictures. Success!!!
I would like to end this thread now. I have some printing issues that I
will start a new thread for if I can't figure them out myself.

Thanks to all again.

Peter and Jerome,
Thanks for steering me to the additional programs I need. I was
unaware. That certainly would change the procedure. I'll load,
Graphviz, ghostxcript, and probably inkscape and see where that gets me.

I'll report back.

Note that the detailed individual report shows picture for the normal
odf output. You can select to run it with a filter, eg, all people in
your tree.

Well I must not be doing something right. I found all "buttons"
as you

described, but printing from the Reports> Graphical reports>
ancestor

tree, still no thumbnail pictures. I can''t print from the Reports>
Graphs> Relationship Graph dialog box as there in no print
option. I

tried changing the thumbnail position along with checking the

box and still no luck.
Could we be talking about different versions of Gramps? I am using
3.2.3-1 which I got from the Ubuntu repositories.

You must have Graphviz and ghostscript installed to be able to use
Reports> Graphs> Relationship Graph
/Peter

Reports> Graphs> Relationship Graph can also show the

associated with an individual. Make sure the thumbnail option is
selected on the 'Report Options' tab. You also have a choice as to
where the thumbnail goes (above the name or beside the name).

So far, the only print reports that I have been able to make
produce

prints the same structure as the Ancestor view. In MY tree,

when the

those pictures

Is this where I should be looking to print my outputs or is there
another area that I am unaware of for better and more

Brock
I suppose we need more details!
Where do you want to see pictures ?
What is the format on output ?
Do you see any picture or just want to see all pictures, like

?

Several days ago, I asked the
question below but have received no
feedback. Should I have perhaps asked what are my
print options once I
have my research as complete as I choose? This
my first exploration in
